Flood Watch Announced, Rivers Expected To Crest Thursday: NWS

Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh and Berks counties are under a Flood Watch Wednesday and Thursday.

A Flood Watch has been announced for Eastern Pennsylvania, including Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh and Berks counties, the National Weather Service said.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch will be in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. The combination of melting snow and periods of heavy rain could produce widespread flooding in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage, forecasters say.

Area rivers, creeks and streams should be approaching crest Thursday or should have already peaked by then, the NWS said.

“Minor to moderate” river flooding is possible Wednesday and Thursday. Areas where flooding is most likely include the Schuylkill River and area creeks, according to the NWS. However, the extent of flooding will depend on Wednesday’s total rainfall, forecasters say.

People who live in areas that are prone to flooding should be monitoring the forecast and be alert for any developments in the forecast, the NWS said.

Drivers should expect that some road closures may be possible late Wednesday or Thursday in poor drainage areas or near flooded streams.

“There is little doubt that most if not all of the snow will be melted by Thursday morning,” the NWS said.
