In 1970, George began his own insurance agency, George Becker Associates and established his office in a historic building in downtown Doylestown. In 2000 he merged his successful business with the Univest Corporation where he served as President of their insurance operations until his retirement.

During his career he attained certifications as a Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Financial Consultant. George, who began his long golf career as a caddy at Cobbs Creek Golf Course in Philadelphia, went on to play in college. He joined Doylestown Country Club in 1968 and held many leadership roles including board membership and Chairman, at various times, of the Golf and Greens Committees. An avid and talented player, George was also a member of Sea View Country Club and Stone Harbor Golf Club. His competitive golf career spanned five decades and included participation and success in local, regional and statewide events. Among his successes, and they were numerous, were victories in the Warner Cup, and the Senior Tournament of Champions, both prestigious Golf Association of Philadelphia events.

As one of the longest term and most active members of Doylestown Country Club, he was truly an ambassador of his club in the golf world. In addition, when inclement weather and nightfall made golf problematic, he was a member and greatly enjoyed the Vesper Club in Philadelphia. George was loving and loyal with a big personality. He lived life to the fullest and was a generous and loving man. He was a good man who loved animals and indulged his children’s requests to adopt puppies and stray kittens.

He was best friend and soul mate to his wife, Sue. George always looked after his three younger sisters who called him GB. He took great joy in caring for and attending his granddaughters’ sports events. They called him Pops, not Grandpa.
