Hundreds Turn Out To Celebrate Agriculture At DelVal University In Doylestown

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Despite a mostly cloudy, chilly, and sometimes rainy weekend, hundreds turned out for the 76th anniversary of A-Day at Delaware Valley University.

From animal shows and tractor displays to live music and authentic Pennsylvania Farm Show milkshakes, the three-day student-run event was packed with agricultural learning and excitement.

The weekend was packed with things to do, from pig races, hayrides, and interactive demonstrations to inflatables, food, student and community vendors, tractor parades, and mechanical bull rides.

The three-day event also brought back the Sigma Alpha animal tent. And new to this year’s event, the DelVal History Department presented a special America 250 exhibit, offering attendees a chance to explore and reflect on the nation’s agricultural roots and historical milestones leading up to the United States’ 250th birthday on July 4th.

The first A-Day was held May 21, 1949, on the campus of the National Agricultural College. At that time, A-Day was a single day when the students of the college worked together to showcase various agricultural displays and exhibits.

Today, the tradition continues with the hard work and dedication of the students of Delaware Valley University. The entire event is planned and implemented by the students with minimal guidance from the university’s staff, faculty, and administration.
