Injured Baby Airlifted to CHOP

A baby had to be airlifted after an injury at a New Britain home on Thursday but police said it was just a precaution.

Police were called to a home near Pine Run Elementary School on Thursday morning at 9:23 a.m., New Britain Police Chief Jim Donnelly said.

The initial call was for a 16-year-old boy who had fallen off the couch and hit his head, Donnelly said.

When rescuers arrived, though, they found the patient really was a 16-month-old boy.

The child was unconscious when police and ambulance personnel arrived, Donnelly said.

"As a precaution, they decided to call for a helicopter," Donnelly said. "By the time it got there, the child had begun crying, but they decided to take him to CHOP to be safe."

Police said there was nothing suspicious about the injury.
