Local Runners Go the Distance

Members of the Crail's Broad Street and Beyond running group at Central Bucks Family YMCA participated in the 33rd annual Broad Street Run in Philadelphia.

 

On Sunday morning, more than 40,000 runners from near and far participated in the 33rd annual Broad Street Run in Philadelphia, including members of the Crail's Broad Street and Beyond running group at .

According to Marie Axler, Marketing Communications Coordinator at the YMCA, the group began training in February for the 10-mile run. The group trained as a large group twice a week, with smaller group runs throughout the week. Several of the members started out as walkers only and for 20 of the 35 members, the Broad Street Run was their first race.  Everyone finished and beat their goal time.

In a report on Philly.com, Henry Rutto, 29, of Kenya, won the 10-mile run for the men's division, clocking in at 47 minutes and 6 seconds, while Esther Erb, 26, of North Carolina, won the women's division with 55 minutes and 28 seconds.
