MLK Day Of Service Projects: Where You Can Help In Bucks Co.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a nationwide day of service honoring the legacy of the late civil rights leader.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Martin Luther King Jr. Day - a nationwide day of service honoring the legacy of the late civil rights leader - will be observed locally in Bucks County with service projects and community events. Here are some of the events and observances taking place on Monday, January 19:

Tyler State Park in Northampton

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, the Friends of Tyler State Park and the DCNR will hold a clean day on Monday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot opposite the Arts Center between 12:45 and 1 p.m. Make sure to sign up for the new volunteer system before you come: https://dcnrvolunteers.pa.gov/ Bring water, gloves, trash pickers if you have them and sturdy footwear. The park will provide trash bags.

Wreath Retirement At Cemetery

The Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Highland Road in Upper Makefield is looking for volunteers to help retire wreaths placed on the graves in December. The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of service project begins at 8:30 a.m. Bring gloves and wear warm clothes. A funeral will be taking place and volunteers are being asked to be respectful and not to park behind the visitors center.

Doylestown Presbyterian Observance

A Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance will begin with a short worship service at 10 a.m. followed by service opportunities at 10:45 a.m. The public is invited to participate in a wide variety of service opportunities to help those in need throughout the community and beyond as they honor the legacy of Dr. King. Activities include: Packing meals for Caring for Friends to help homebound individuals, assembling snack bags for Bethel Presbyterian Church, making inspirational buttons for yourself and for a luncheon at Second Baptist Church, making bookmarks for children in a school in Pakistan, and helping make blankets for For Native Americans. Enjoy hot cocoa and a fundraising bake sale (cash donations only) with proceeds benefiting The Gather Place in Yardley. MLK Day Events At Thompson Memorial

Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church on Aquetong Road in Solebury Township will open its Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance at 9 a.m. on Monday with an opening program and keynote speaker, retired Bucks County Judge Clyde Waite. The day continues with service projects and speakers at 10 and 11 a.m. and a panel discussion at noon. The speakers include acclaimed photographer and visual historian Wendel White and James Seth Thompson, Senior Vice President and Head of Diverse and Multicultural Wealth Segments at Bernstein Private Wealth Management. White will explore how African American history is preserved, interpreted, and reclaimed, offering a moving reflection on memory, representation, and the unfinished work of justice.
