Nighttime Traffic Stop Yields Huffing Paraphernalia In Warrington

Couple faces charges for the illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances and restriction on alcoholic beverages.

WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A Langhorne couple is facing charges after an early morning traffic stop yielded open bottles of alcohol and huffing paraphernalia.

On Nov. 13 at 1:44 a.m., police observed a suspicious vehicle parked at the Sparta gas station after business hours. A short time later, police followed the car as it left the station.

On Easton Road near County Line, the officer observed a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle was being driven by a 45-year-old woman with her 44-year-old husband in the front passenger seat.

Police said the driver was unable to produce a valid driver's license. The officer also observed that she was not wearing shoes or socks, despite the temperature being about 40 degrees. The officer also observed multiple small zip-lock baggies on the floor near her feet, police said.

Middletown Township police responded with K9 Kratos to assist with the investigation. The dog alerted officers to the odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle was subsequently impounded and a search warrant was secured.

Police said a search of the vehicle yielded numerous containers of alcohol, both open and unopened. Officers also found five used nitrous oxide canisters labeled “Whip-It” and flavored varieties. Additionally, the search turned up seven nitrous oxide plastic adapters, which are commonly used to inhale gas for intoxication purposes. Two unpackaged balloons, commonly used to ingest solvents, were also recovered from the vehicle.

The couple was transported by police to the Knights Inn. A preliminary hearing for both individuals was scheduled for Dec. 29 for the illegal use of certain solvents and noxious substances and restriction on alcoholic beverages, however, both failed to appear. As a result, all charges were held for the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
