PennDOT To Begin 3-Month Bridge Replacement Project In Plumstead

Route 32 bridge will be closed until September while PennDOT replaces the span with a 22-foot-wide box culvert.

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA – Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 17 on a will a $965,000 project to replace the Route 32 (River Road) Bridge over a tributary of the Delaware River in Plumstead Township.

The bridge sustained structural damage from the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021.

Under the project, PennDOT's contractor will replace the existing 101-year-old single-span concrete slab bridge with a 22-foot-wide reinforced concrete box culvert.

A structure mounted guiderail barrier, as well as approach guiderail, will be installed and painted brown. In addition, utility relocation, debris removal, and roadway embankment repairs will take place.

Temporary repairs were made to the state highway and the streambed in order to reopen the road as quickly as possible for the public, following the 2021 storm. Approximately 2,238 motorists travel over the structure each day.

Beginning, Monday, June 17, and continuing through early September, Route 32 (River Road) will be closed between Old Ferry Road and Fleecy Dale Road. During the closure, motorists are directed to use Point Pleasant Pike, Route 413 (Durham Road), Mechanicsville Road, and Greenhill Road.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
