DOYLESTOWN, PA — Plans to replace the Edison Furlong Road bridge over Pebble Creek will be discussed during the regular meetings of the Doylestown Township and the Buckingham Township Board of Supervisors this month. The bridge is located in Buckingham and Doylestown townships at Bennetts Corner.

The first meeting is scheduled for March 17 at 7 p.m. at the Doylestown Township Building, located at 425 Wells Road, Doylestown. A second meeting will take place on March 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Buckingham Township Building, located at 4613 Hughesian Drive, Buckingham. Pre-registration is not required for either event.

Attendees at the meetings will have an opportunity to participate in survey questions and provide input. According to PennDOT, the purpose of the meetings is to introduce the project and gather public feedback on questions or concerns. It will also provide a chance for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect on cultural resources, as per Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The existing concrete slab bridge, built in 1925, is currently listed in fair condition and sees approximately 7,097 vehicles daily. The replacement project will involve replacing the existing bridge with a precast box culvert on the same alignment. The new construction will include two 11-foot travel lanes with 5-foot shoulders. To meet hydraulic needs, the roadway profile will be raised approximately two feet at the structure, PennDOT said.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2028. A detour will be necessary during construction, anticipated to last for about three months. The proposed six-mile detour route will use Route 611, U.S. 202, Route 313, and Route 263. PennDOT will also provide project plans online, including a self-guide presentation and a comment form.
