Phillie Phanatic Visits Buckingham Elementary

The Phillie Phanatic made a surprise visit to Buckingham Elementary School on Monday.

The mascot came to honor Buckingham Elementary with a certificate of achievement for participating in the Phillies’ “Phanatic About Reading” initiative, Central Bucks Community Relations Coordinator Melanie Sullivan said.

During his visit, the Phanatic introduced his new book, “Phillie Phanatic: One Man Band!”

“Seeing the Phanatic act out events from the story while it was read aloud during the assembly was a “hit” with students. To have the Phanatic stop by right before Spring Training begins was a “Home Run!,” Sullivan said in a press release.

In order to participate in the Phanatic About Reading initiative, Buckingham students read for 15 minutes a night for more than two months.

The school tallied the amount of nights that were read in each class and sent the information to the Phillies.

Buckingham School also submitted a video performed by second and fifth graders entitled “It’s all about those books”.

Each teacher had the opportunity to nominate a Most Outstanding Reader and a Most Improved Reader, and these children may be chosen to be honored prior to a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park during the Be a Phanatic About Reading Literacy Night, Sullivan said.
