Driving with emergency lights and siren activated, he arrived at the scene and began searching for the caller. He soon located two individuals who had been hunting on the property deep in a wooded area. The victim was lying on the ground with a severe, self-inflicted, accidental shotgun wound to his lower leg.

According to police accounts, Officer Elkadousy applied a tourniquet to the victim’s upper leg and communicated each step to keep the victim calm and informed throughout the incident. He notified Bucks County Police Radio dispatch of the time the tourniquet was applied, ensuring that critical information was preserved for responding EMS and hospital personnel.

The victim was flown by the Temple University Med Flight helicopter to Temple University Hospital for emergency care.

According to Chief David Mettin, the department was contacted by the flight medic who credited Officer Elkadousy with saving the life of the victim by quickly and properly applying lifesaving aid.

“Officer Elkadousy's unwavering commitment to preserving life brings great credit to himself, the Plumstead Township Police Department, and the law enforcement profession as a whole,” said the VFW. “We are proud to have him serving our community.”

Earlier this year, Chief Mettin also presented Elkadousy with the department’s Life Saving award.
