Safe Stolen with $7K Inside

Police say a safe was stolen recently from a Doylestown home.

Some Doylestown residents got an unwelcome holiday surprise.

They returned home from an out-of-town trip to find their home on West Court Street had been burglarized.

The only thing missing was a safe, stolen from a closet on the second floor. The 10-inch by 10-inch by 18-inch safe was easy enough to carry away, according to police.

Inside was $7,000 and the family's important papers, including birth certificates and passports, according to police reports released Friday.

Doylestown Borough Police Chief Jim Donnelly said officers are investigating but have little to go on.

The family had left the door unlocked, Donnelly said, so there were no signs of forced entry.

The theft happened sometime between Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
