School Board Already Agreed On Next Superintendent, President Says

School Board President Beth Darcy confirmed the board has "unanimously agreed" to offer the position of superintendent to John Kopicki.

Central Bucks School Board President Beth Darcy has confirmed the board has "unanimously agreed" to offer the position of superintendent to John Kopicki.

The agreement was reached during an executive session, because it was a personnel matter, said Melanie Sullivan, Central Bucks' Community Relations Coordinator.

However, Darcy said the offer will not be finalized until a contract has been negotiated and approved by the board at a public meeting.

"Negotiations between Mr. Kopicki and Central Bucks' legal representatives are underway. No final contract has been agreed to as of this writing. It is the desire of the board to see this process completed with a vote by the board at one of the scheduled public board meetings in April so that Mr. Kopicki's transition to Central Bucks will be complete by Dr. David Weitzel's retirement date of June 30, 2016," Darcy said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Kopicki raised eyebrows among the Central Bucks community after news broke that he had already resigned from his position as a first-year superintendent at Altoona Area School District, even before receiving an offer from Central Bucks.

Kopicki announced his resignation Monday during a press conference, according to the Altoona Mirror. He told the publication he is resigning because he's likely to be named as superintendent of Central Bucks School District, the report said.

Kopicki's announcement came the very day Central Bucks School District told the community it had merely invited the candidate to tour the district and participate in a public forum.

Despite the existing agreement on the part of the board to hire Kopicki, Darcy said she still encourages the public to come meet him at a community forum scheduled for Tuesday, April 5th, at 7:00 pm, at Lenape Middle School.
