State Senate OKs Medical Marijuana

The legislation now goes to the House; Gov. Tom Corbett has said he would not sign such a bill.

The Pennsylvania State Senate on Wednesday approved legislation legalizing medical marijuana.

Senate Bill 1182 passed by a vote of 43 to 7, The Philadelphia Inquirer said, and would require a doctor’s authorization for use of medical marijuana. Similar requirements are in place in all states where medical marijuana is legal, the Inquirer said.

The legislation now heads to the House of Representatives, but House Republicans in the past have said that such decisions should be left up to the federal Food and Drug Administration, The Patriot-News said.

Gov. Tom Corbett has said that he is opposed to legalizing any form of marijuana, the Inquirer said.
