Terrain Liquor License Transfer Approved By Doylestown Township
"We need this liquor license for us to continue with this project," Urban Outfitters attorney Francis Sullivan told the supervisors.

DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Another piece of the puzzle fell into place this month for Terrain at Delaware Valley University.
The Doylestown Township Supervisors at its September meeting unanimously approved the inter-municipal transfer of a liquor license from Milford Township to Doylestown Township for the new home and garden store, cafe and event venue coming next spring at 2100 State Road on the Delaware Valley University campus.
“We need this liquor license for us to continue with this project,” Urban Outfitters attorney Francis Sullivan told the supervisors.

He was joined at the meeting by Jennifer Calliagas, the North American planning director for Urban Outfitters, who briefly described the project and the need for the license.
“It’s critical to our business that we have a liquor license,” she told the supervisors, noting that the license is needed to serve alcohol at the events venue and at its cafe.

Terrain at DelVal is the first for the brand in the Doylestown area. Terrain introduced its Glen Mills flagship store in 2008 and opened a second location in the Philadelphia region at Devon Yard in 2018. Terrain’s other store locations are in Westport, Conn., Century City, Calif., Palo Alto, Calif., Walnut Creek, Calif and Bethesda, Md.
“The concept consists of a lifestyle home and garden center, a farm to table cafe and an event venue for boutique weddings and other occasions,” said Calliagas.
“Terrain is focused on what is fresh and seasonal. We do like to work closely with local farmers, which is why we are especially excited about this location where we will have a partnership with Delaware Valley University,” said Calliagas.
Calliagas shared with the supervisors a photograph of Terrain’s outdoor dining area in Westport, Conn., surrounded by plantings. “The nursery is next door, but we like to make sure that everyone feels like they are eating among the plants.”
She also shared photographs of the interior of the event building and the cafe at Glen Mills.
“You can see in the photo the garden and farm inspired feel with kind of a rustic and boutique feeling,” she said of the events venue. The cafe, she added, features “a greenhouse-inspired design. The idea is that you’re in an eating environment that you feel like you’re really inside a greenhouse among the plants.”
Calliagas presented the board with a copy of the cafe menu. “This does change seasonally based on what’s fresh and local at the time. There’s a selection of soups, salads, bowls and plates with greens and vegetables, fresh fish, different meats,” she said. “Hopefully we can utilize what DVU has fresh and available to us.”
She also spoke about the cafe’s cocktail offerings, including a curated wine list, garden-inspired cocktails that will change seasonally, some local microbrews, and some non-alcoholic drinks as well.
“We also have a pretty strong coffee program. Throughout the day people usually come in and have coffee while they are shopping. Those are seasonally-inspired also throughout the course of the year,” she said.
“Our menu includes brunch and full dinner service. Our customers are expecting to have a mimosa or wine with their dinner. And it’s also integral to the event business. Whether it’s weddings or parties, alcohol is a very necessary part of that business model.”
Terrain at DelVal will be located on Delaware Valley University’s campus and will serve fresh food grown on-site.
