Tornado Touched Down In Bucks Co., National Weather Service Says

A 100-yard wide tornado touched down in Bucks County on Sunday night, uprooting dozens of trees and damaging a campground, officials said.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A tornado did indeed touch down in Bucks County on Sunday night, the National Weather Service has confirmed.

The tornado, ranked EF1 on the severity scale, hit in Tinicum Township at around 9:51 p.m. An EF1 tornado is classified as causing "moderate" damage, with winds between 86 and 110 miles per hour.

It hit at the Beaver Valley Campgrounds near Ottsville, about 14 miles from Doylestown and 16 miles from New Hope, causing some damage in the area.

The Weather Service said the tornado had a maximum width of around 100 yards, and moved over the ground for about a minute.

Dozens of trees were uprooted, and three camping trailers were damaged by falling trees, officials said.

No one was injured.

According to storm chaser Ed Sweeney, it's the first tornado in the county in 22 years, since Sept. 1997.
