Cougar Sighting Report False Alarm, Police Say

A Buckingham resident reported a cougar sighting to police Wednesday in the area of Mill Road and Route 263.

Buckingham Township Police say there is no evidence to back up a report that there was a cougar sighting in the township Wednesday.

Police confirmed to Patch that officers responded to a call reporting a cougar sighting on Mill Road, near Route 263.

Lieutenant J.R. Landis said the sighting was reported in a “very thick forested area.” Upon arrival, police found “no evidence” to support this claim, Landis said.

“Over the years there have been similar reports that also remain unfounded. More than likely this animal was a coyote or a large domestic cat,” he said, noting the last cougar sighting he recalls was 15 or 20 years ago.
