'Bottle Bombs' Worry Park Avenue Residents

Swissvale police and emergency personnel are looking into two incidents.

Park Avenue residents in Swissvale are concerned about the placement of bottle bombs on their streets.

On Wednesday, resident Andrew Bartle told borough council about two separate incidents in which bottle bombs were found on the street.

Bottle bombs are homemade bombs made with plastic bottles or milk jugs, aluminum foil and a mix of chemicals.

Swissvale police and the county bomb squad were called to Park Avenue to take care of the recent incidents. Edgewood police also responded to at least one of the calls on April 21.

Bartle said he is worried about the safety of his neighbors.

"(Bottle bombs) are serious and can be very destructive," Bartle said.

Police Chief Greg Geppert said officers and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal's office continue to investigate the incidents.

Bartle said many homes on the street also have been egged.

Officials asked residents to call 911 if they notice any suspicious behavior.
