Township code allows for 50 feet maximum.
The previous LA Fitness sign was 180.5 square feet.
Ultimately, the board tabled their decision on the sought variance and asked for more information on how bright the sign would be and how it may impact neighbors in the area.
The board plans to rehear the variance with the new information at its next meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 3 in Room 201A of the Municipal Services Building, 1014 Darby Road in Havertown.
Should Amazon open the Amazon Fresh store, which offers in-store grocery shopping and online shopping with delivery options, it will mark the second location in Pennsylvania, as Amazon Fresh has a store in Warrington.
Amazon still has a pending liquor license at that location, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
