Maurice Wright's Opera "A Lyric's Tale"

The Department of Music presents Maurice Wright’s chamber opera “The Lyric’s Tale” with baritone, Lawrence Indik, along with Stravinsky’s “L’Histoire du Soldat.”

Haverford College describes the events as follows: The Lyric's Tale is a 45-minute "entertainment" for voice and chamber orchestra with projected video. Drawing on texts spanning many centuries, the play is about life, death and love, and the membrane that separates science and religion. Jane Vanish, writing for the Pittsburgh Gazette, says "By turns German chorale and Renaissance song, Broadway and country in a contemporary setting, Wright walked his musical tightrope with uncommon grace and skill. It all could have been overwhelming, but was remarkably forthright and witty, a rarity in "serious" music....the audience found the expected was unexpectedly and delectably altered."
