Opening Reception for C3: Create. Connect. Collect.

C3: Create. Connect. Collect. is an innovative project unique to the Philadelphia area that connects patrons of the arts with contemporary artists from our region working in a variety of media to collaborate through the commissioning process.

C3: Create. Connect. Collect. (October 2-26, 2011) features work by nearly 40 notable contemporary artists from our region, including work that was commissioned through this project. The exhibition will kick off with a ticketed Preview Party featuring an open bar, live music, and hors d'œuvres on October 1, from 6:30-9 pm. Tickets, on sale now, are $100 for general entry and $200 for exclusive early entry (6 pm, also includes studio tour with featured artist), and $75 for Young Friends ages 21-49. Contact Anisa Haidary, Development Director, at 610.525.0272 ext. 13.

Planning for C3: Create. Connect. Collect. began last summer, as Art Center Executive Director Judy Herman and Advisory Council Member Mary Anne Dutt Justice began the process of selecting artists to be a part of the project. Nearly 40 professional artists were selected, all who areforward-thinkers and sought after for their original artwork. From September through January, the Art Center presented a series of salons hosted in individual’s homes and at the Art Center, where guests viewed a slideshow presentation of work by the artists. If a guest was interested in commissioning work, the Art Center helped to facilitate the match with the artist. As a result of the project, 11 commissioned pieces are in progress and will be part of the exhibition, along with work from all of the participating artists.

C3-commissioned artists include: Joan Becker, Fritz Dietel, Judy Gelles, Linda Lou Horn, Jonathan Mandell, Michael Manthey, Marianne Mitchell, Val Rossman, and Leo Sewell.

Additional artists exhibiting work include: Harry Anderson, Steve Baris, Stanley Bielen, Jill Bonovitz, Anna Boothe, Moe Brooker, Doug Bucci, Ann Chahbandour, Carol Cole, Daniel Cutrone, Robert Finch, Jane Irish, Carol Kardon, Smokie Kittner, Trudy Kraft, Jack Larimore, Lisa Learner, Rudy Lewis, Elaine Lisle, Max Mason, Ann Northrup, Jeff Schaller, Stuart Shils, Francine Shore, Sara Steele, Lee Stoetzel, James Toogood, and Paula Winokur.
