When a Victorian woman said she was going to dress for dinner, it may well have been her fourth change of clothes that day! And did you ever wonder what they wore under those fancy, cumbersome dresses? You can find our by attending Unlacing the Victorian Woman, presented by costume designer and historian Barbara Meyer Darlin.
This program has been described as a one-woman fashion show, a social history lesson, a conceptual-performance/lecture, and a Victorian striptease. As she changes -- onstage -- into the outfits worn by a turn-of-the century lady in a typical day, she shows the audience two typical ensembles for day wear, complete with all the unmentionables! Throughout the program, Ms. Darlin explains women's role in Victorian society, daily routines, and social customs and ettiquette.
This program is free and open to the public.
