Haverford Police Dogs Get New Body Armor Vests

Haverford Police K9s Barr, Kato, Jango, and Axel now have some extra protection when in the line of duty thanks to Vested Interest in K9s.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA – Back in October Haverford Police said four of its K9 officers would be getting their own body armor vests. And now K9 Officers Barr, Kato, Jango, and Axel have those vests to stay safe while in the line of duty.

The bullet- and stab-proof vests feature an embroidered message reading "In memory of K9 Ty, California City Police Department," police said.

The body armor comes from non-profit group Vested Interests in K9s, Inc, which provides vests and other forms of assistance for K9 officers throughout the nation.

The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age, Haverford Police said. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate, according to police.
