Hill Top Drops Two Games In Last At Bat At State Tournament
Hill Top loses two tough ones in the 2011 Cal Ripken Babe Ruth Pennsylvania State tournament.
Lower Makefield- It was a case of what might have been for the Hill Top All stars as they battled opponents and the elements on and off the field in the 2011 Cal Ripken Babe Ruth Pennsylvania State tournament hosted by Pennsbury and held in Yardley.
In the opening round, Hill Top scored three runs in the top of the sixth and held a 7-5 lead over Unionville until the last at bat where the Indians put up three runs to claim an 8-7 win in the sweltering heat on Saturday.
Led by a 2-for-3 performance from Andrew Daly, who also scored two runs along with Declan Sminkey (1-for-2, run scored) and Joey Donnelly who scored the go ahead run, the Hill Top offense posted eight hits in the tilt.

A walk off double by Jesse Juul was the final blow as he drove in Justin Kline and Michael Shanahan to boost the Indians to the win.
Hill Top battled the Valley Vipers in the second round of pool play and again the offense posted some robust numbers, scoring 10 runs on nine hits, putting nine runs on the board in a third inning where they sent 15 men to the plate, taking a 9-7 lead.

Alex Nicolaides (double, single, run scored), Thomas Gahagan (run scored), Alex McCall (single, runs scored) along with Alex Smith (3-for-4, double, 3 runs scored) and Zach Kokol (double, 2 runs scored) led the hit parade for Hill Top, which again saw a late game lead evaporate as the Vipers scored four in the sixth inning to claim a 13-10 win.
In a day of competition that could have easily ended with Hill Top being 2-0, they were instead 0-2 and hanging onto their final four hopes with day two action to follow.
In the 3:30 game of the day, Doylestown forfeited their contest with Harleysville, as three players became over come by the sun, suffering from heat exhaustion. With the safety of the children in mind the Tigers forfeited the game, as they did not have enough players to continue, and got them in the air conditioned area provided by the staff of the tournament. The tournament staff did a great job helping them recover and no one was sent to the hospital.
