Nagl To Return As Haverford School Headmaster

Nagl's since-withdrawn simple assault charge led to him being placed on leave.

Dr. John Nagl is reported to have been reinstated as headmaster of the Haverford School, according to information provided by the school.

According to the school, the school's board of trustees reinstated Nagl to the position after the Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced the simple assault charge filed against Nagl was withdrawn due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

"The decision was based on a thorough and objective assessment of what remains a deeply personal matter involving Dr. Nagl and his family," Haverford School's Chairman of the Board of Trustees William C. Yoh said Wednesday in a statement.

Yoh said Nagl expressed "sincere regret and has pledged to reflect on how he can grow as a father and as a leader."

Nagl was charged with simple assault after being accused of being involved in a physical altercation with his son on Oct. 10. The charge led the school's board of trustee to place Nagl on administrative leave while Assistant Headmaster Mark Thorburn served as acting headmaster.

Nagl will return to the school Friday, Oct. 28.

"We thank all members of the Haverford School community for their strength and understanding during this time, and for their unwavering commitment to our mission of preparing boys for life," Yoh said.
