Boys Soccer Team Headed to Tonight's District Finals

The Saucon Valley boys soccer team will face off against Moravian Academy in a 5pm championship game at Whitehall High School.

Tonight will be a very big night for Panther soccer fans, as the boys varsity team competes against Moravian Academy in the District XI Finals at Whitehall High School at 5pm.

Parents and friends of the team are hoping to pack the stands with supporters for what promises to be an exciting matchup.

According to parent Jennifer Schriffert, regardless of the game's outcome, Saucon Valley and Moravian will both advance to the state championships next week.

The Saucon Valley boys team last won a state championship in 1977, and it's "time to bring the trophy back to Saucon Valley," Schriffert said in an email.

The only two losses the Panthers have suffered this season have been to Palisades and Moravian, which combined, put the team just a point away from qualifying for the Colonial League playoffs.

However, a series of hard-fought victories against Phillipsburg, Notre Dame-Green Pond (on Oct. 27) and Blue Mountain (on Nov. 1) have propelled the Panthers back into contender status.

In Tuesday's semi-final game against Blue Mountain, which Saucon took 2-0, Chris Coelho and Isaac Martin each scored a goal, Schriffert said.

The team's goalie, Nate Robinson, "is very strong and has had many shutouts this season," she added.

Schriffert encouraged all Saucon Valley residents to come and support the team "and show Moravian what Panther Pride is all about."
