Local Student Recognized for 'Outstanding Leadership'

Hellertown resident Anthony Masucci, a junior at Valley Forge Military Academy, has been recognized for his leadership qualities by the Widener University High School Leadership Awards.

A Hellertown resident who is a junior at Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pa. has been recognized for his leadership qualities and civic contributions, it was announced Jan. 12.

In partnership with Philadelphia's WCAU-TV NBC10, Widener University has named Anthony Masucci a winner of its annual High School Leadership Awards.

"In its first year, the program recognized 69 students from high schools throughout the Philadelphia region who possess the character, courage and competencies to effect positive change," it was explained in a press release from the university.

Masucci, it was noted, "has made a difference by leading the Glee Club as recognized by him winning the Glee Club Medal for Choir Leadership."

Winners of the awards will attend a celebratory breakfast at the National Constitution Center on Feb. 28 and a sponsored leadership experience at Widener University in the fall, the university said. They will also be recognized for their community efforts by NBC10.

"Most notably," the school announced, "winners will receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years should they enroll at Widener University for undergraduate studies."
