Senior Spotlight: Marcos Flores
Saucon Valley senior Marcos Flores has thrown discus and shot putt as a member of the track and field team, and played defensive end as a member of the football squad.
Senior Marcos Flores has always had his eye on the future. After his freshman year at , he realized it would be beneficial for him to get involved in some type(s) of school activity that he could list when it was time for him to apply for post-high school educational opportunities. As a result, he decided to walk on as a possible football player for Coach Matt Evancho in August 2009.Â
"Marcos started playing for the first time ever as a sophomore," Evancho recalled. "Through hard work and dedication, Marcos worked himself into being a starter at defensive end."
"Marcos was a great role model for the younger kids on our team," he added. "A leader like Marcos will be hard to replace."

His older brother, Oliver, has served as a role model for Marcos, and he was extremely proud of Oliver's achievements in the 300m hurdles. In the spring of 2010, Marcos decided to try out as an extra for Coach Ed Kolosky's track team. He started to throw both the shot putt and the discus.
"I loved it and stuck with it," he said.

"Marcos and I go way back, as he was one of my own in fifth grade," Kolosky said. "I continue to see him as pretty much the way I did seven years ago, only now, he's way more athletic than I would've ever imagined him to become."
Kolosky called his former pupil "a true gentleman, in every aspect."
"He comes from a loving and caring household whose strong family values have chiseled Marcos into the man he is today," he added. "He will be greatly missed by his fifth grade teacher, his track coaches and his teammates."
Marcos lists the following three events as highlights of his athletic career at Saucon:
1. The Catty/Bangor meet, where he was able to perform well in competition with throwers he will oppose again at both the 2012 League and District meets.
2. Senior Night, when he filled in throwing the javelin and placed second.
3. The Palisades meet, where he threw the discus 140 feet for the first time in competition.
Marcos likes science, will enroll at the University of Delaware and plans to major in environmental science. He is a member of the Ski Club, likes "cheesesteak day" in the school cafeteria and will also stop for something to eat at the Hellertown Deli. For relaxation, Marcos golfs at the Locust Valley Golf Course or at the Mulvihill Golf Learning Center on Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
Marcos is the son of Richard and Geri Flores.
