Horsham To Hold Public Council Meeting On Water Quality

Horsham Township said they hope to have a "standard of water quality that far exceeds any other in the nation" by the end of 2016.

Horsham, PA -- Horsham Township Council and the Horsham Water and Sewer Authority (HWSA) will hold a joint meeting regarding the improvement of water quality in the township during the Monday’s Council Meeting, the township announced in a press release.

The meeting is open to the public and Horsham residents are welcome to attend. The Township Council and HWSA will consider a series of remediation options to address the levels of perfluorochemicals (PFCs) previously found in Horsham’s water supply as a result of U.S. Department of Defense activities on the Naval Air Base in Willow Grove, according to the release.

The meeting will take place Monday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Horsham Township Community Center on 1025 Horsham Road in Horsham.

Notably, the meeting is one day before - but was announced several days after - a public meeting held by the Erin Brockovich-associated law firm Weitz and Luxenberg, which is investigating the water contamination.

The law firm, which works with consumer advocate Brockovich, will hold their meeting on Tuesday, June 28 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the auditorium in Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove.

“25 years after I first found contaminated water in Hinkley, California, we are still dealing with entities polluting the water supply in our communities," Brockovich said. "The residents of Pennsylvania deserve information and answers and I will not stop until they get what they need to keep their families safe."

The township's meeting participants will include:

  • William Walker, Horsham Township Manager
  • Tina M. O'Rourke, Business Manager, Horsham Sewer and Water Authority
  • Horsham Township Council
  • Horsham Water and Sewer Authority Board
  • Horsham residents

The township noted that all water provided by HWSA currently meets or exceeds all DEP and EPA drinking water quality standards, and all nine of the HWSA’s active wells show PFC levels significantly below the new EPA Lifetime Health Advisory.

Council and HWSA will review remediation options at Monday’s meeting with a stated goal of "achieving a standard of water quality that far exceeds any other in the nation by the end of 2016," according to the release.
