HATBORO, PA —The borough has begun its 2023 road paving project.

At Monday night's Borough Council meeting, borough officials said that three roads will be paved under the project that is expected to start Tuesday.

The roads selected are:

  • Springdale Avenue —County Line Road to Terrace Avenue. $54,211
  • Central Avenue —South New Street to Lacey Avenue. $55,844
  • South Penn Street —Byberry Road to 100 feet north. $82,046.75

A fourth road was originally slated as well but appears to not have made the list this year. That's South Chester Avenue from West Moreland Avenue to Spring Avenue, which was slated to cost $152,225.50.

The road had been approved for paving at the council's meeting in late May. Borough officials did not say why the road was dropped from the list.

The council had been given an original list of 10 streets at its committee meeting earlier this month but the list was pared down to the eight roads.

The roads that didn't make it onto the final list included Jacksonville Road, Bright Road, Crescent Road, and Oakdale Avenue.

Borough Manager Diane Hegele had previously told Patch that the borough usually paves about three roads each year and budgets between $175,000 and $200,000, but that with rising asphalt costs, the estimates would come in higher.

Borough Council had previously considered tabling the measure to see what PECO or Aqua projects might interfere with paving but decided to move forward since paving must be completed by the end of October.

Residents are also dealing with a road closure with the Warminster Road Bridge.
