MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA —State Rep. Todd Stephens signed off on his tenure as the transition in the 151st Legislative District goes to Democrat Melissa Cerrato, who defeated the Republican incumbent in the Nov. 8 election.

The state representative of 12 years closed his office on Wednesday, gave his farewell remarks in the House and sent an email to constituents thanking them for their support over the years.

"Though I am disappointed I won’t be returning to Harrisburg to serve the community where I was born, raised and am raising my family, I am proud of my accomplishments," Stephens stated.

Cerrato's win helped give the Democratic Party a majority in the state House of Representatives for the first time in more than a decade.

The reconfigured 151st District now includes the Montgomery County townships of Upper Dublin, Montgomery and Horsham, as well as Ambler Borough.

Stephens cited his accomplishments as creating a program for safe, clean drinking water, improving child protection laws; vaccinating thousands during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing record-setting education funding for schools without raising taxes and writing "the most comprehensive animal protection law in the country."

"I’ll certainly look back at my time as your state representative with pride," he said while also thanking his wife Nicole, sons Will and Ben and his parents, sister and entire family. "My family has had to make a lot of sacrifices over the years in order for me to serve our community, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with them at home."

Stephens, in his email, went on to thank his staff, both past and present, who "worked tirelessly over the years to serve the constituents of the 151st District."

He also thanked his constituents.

"I have had the good fortune to meet so many wonderful people along this journey and I will forever cherish the memories and relationships," he said.

Stephens said he is unsure of his future plans at this moment.

"They say when one door closes, another opens," Stephens concluded in his email. "I am not sure what the future holds for me, but I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to writing the next chapter of my professional life while focusing on the most important jobs I have - being a husband and a father. I wish you all the best."
