1500 North Penn Elementary Students Compete In Triathlon

It's the fitness event of the year in the North Penn School District.

LANSDALE, PA — Nearly 1,500 elementary school students competed in the annual IronKnights Triathlon event at North Penn this weekend.

The event, organized by the district and the North Penn Educational Foundation, took place on May 18.

A total of 1,463 students participated.

Students from kindergarten through sixth grade swam, ran, and biked for distances measured based on their age. Students in kindergarten through second grade will began bright and early at 8:00 a.m. swimming 20 yards, biking one mile and running a half-mile. Third and fourth graders were the next to follow at 11:00 a.m., swimming 60 yards, biking three miles and running three-quarters of a mile. Students in grades five and six wrapped up the afternoon at 2:30 p.m.and swim 100 yards, bike five miles and run one mile, the school district said.

The event, organized by physical education teacher Jason Theodore of Montgomery Elementary, aims to promote health, wellness, and hard work in students.

Students were provided with opportunities to train for the competition, including swimming practices at school.
