NORTH WALES, PA -- Bystanders recounted the final moments leading up to the fatal gunshots in a North Wales church on a recent Sunday morning.

Testimony from eyewitness, reported by Philly.com, reveal that some saw the shooting coming, but were unable to stop it.

When Gordon Hower saw Mark T. Storms, 46, pull out his gun, he told his wife to "get everyone out of here," according to the report.

Hower recounted in his testimony how he yelled for Storms to stop, but it was too late, the report states.

Braxton reportedly became disruptive during the service, and Storms, who has no official position with the church, accosted him. He showed a concealed weapons permit and the gun, and told Braxton to leave the church, the DA said.

Ushers had already decided to leave Braxton alone, the report states, when Storms, who was not an usher, decided to interfere.

Authorities said that's when Braxton hit Storm in the face. The report supplements this account:

The two men stood face to face, not speaking, Hower said, when he saw Storms pointing his gun. There were other church members, including children and a woman in a wheelchair, in the direction that Storms fired the gun, Hower said.

Bradbury, the detective, testified that Storms later said he had felt threatened, and that he "had no intentions to kill or hurt this gentleman."

Initially, authorities had reported that a man involved in the altercation was cooperating with police but that he was not in custody.

Storms will pursue a self-defense case, according to his attorney.

The incident was reported at 11:24 a.m. The service began at 11 a.m.

It's unclear what kind of "disruption" Braxton was causing. According to more than 50 witness interviews, he was "agitated" and "verbally disruptive" when arrived at 11 a.m., the DA's office said.

A vigil was held in honor of Braxton and his family at the church's campus after the event in Skippack.
