Emmy-Nominated North Penn Alum To Visit School

Danielle Volmar has received widespread acclaim for her work as a meteorologist and journalist.

LANSDALE, PA -- An Emmy-nominated alumna of North Penn High School will be visiting the school on March 11 to speak to students about career options and the path she took to success.

Danielle Volmar, of the class of 2002, is currently a StormTeam 5 meteorologist for WCVB-TV Channel 5.

Volmar joined WCVB-TV in April of 2013, serving as the meteorologist for the weekend editions of the "EyeOpener” newscasts.

Prior to joining WCVB-TV, she was the evening meteorologist on KDAF-TV (CW33) in Dallas. She also hosted the CW 33 morning show, "Eye Opener,” which was broadcast on the Tribune TV stations in Dallas, Houston, Miami, Philly and Portland.

Before moving to Dallas, Volmar served as the weekend evening news meteorologist for KOKH (Fox) in Oklahoma City. Danielle reported on severe and breaking weather stories including multiple tornadoes and the Christmas Eve blizzard of 2009.

Volmar is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) and was honored with an AP Award for "Best Weathercast” when she was the midday meteorologist at WBOC-TV (CBS) in Salisbury, MD. A graduate of Cornell University, Danielle began her career while still in school as the fill-in weather anchor for WENY-TV in Elmira, New York.

North Penn said in a statement that Volmar is one of NPHS’s many successful alumni whose experiences and story "can relate to current NPHS students and serve as inspiration to one day achieve great things."

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and run to 10:30 a.m. at the North Penn auditorium.
