Fake Lansdale Police Officer Scam Hitting Local Area

The fake cop threatens an arrest warrant and demands payment in gift cards.

LANSDALE, PA — The latest scam in the local area involves an individual posing as a Lansdale police officer and demanding payment for fictional arrest warrants.

Police issued a warning to the public this week.

"The callers also ask for personal information from the victims, and LPD phone number will display on victim’s caller ID when they receive the call," police said. "The callers will ask for payment using gift cards."

Police issued the following reminders to the public:

1. LPD does not call people to solicit money for payment of warrants.
2. No police department or court in the nation will accept gift cards as payment for anything.
3. Do not give any personal information out over the phone to an unknown subject who calls you.
4. If you have suspicions that the subject you are speaking with is not an officer, tell them you will hang up and call them at the station.
