Former Lansdale Police Chief Passes Away

James W. Hansley, who led the department for 12 years, died on Sunday.

The former head of the Lansdale police department died on Sunday, according to a release from The Reporter.

Ex-Chief of Police James W. Hansley, in charge from 1980 till 1992, died with his family by his side from an illness in Cape May, N.J., the report states.

Described as an “old time cop,” a “good detective” and a “quintessential law man,” he was noted for his successful collaborations with other area chiefs and his tough but always fair treatment of his department, according to the report.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. — preceded by visitation beginning at 9 a.m. — on Friday, April 17, at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home at 701 Derstine Ave. in Lansdale.
