High School Rumor Mill Fabricates Ebola Scare at North Penn

Rumors on social media that a North Penn student has Ebola has prompted school officials to make a public statement.

Recent social media posts spreading rumors about a case of Ebola in North Penn School District are false, the district has announced.

“There are no cases of Ebola in our schools,” the district said on its website. “Any questions may be referred to the Montgomery Health Department.”

Since Oct. 2, rumors have been spreading via social media, including Twitter, that a case of Ebola has been detected at North Penn.

“I wanna know one thing right now who in north penn had Ebola,” Tweeted one user on Oct. 2.

“Ebola is apparently in north Penn?,” another Tweeted on Oct. 3.

“Someone at North Penn might have Ebola we all dead,” an Oct. 2 Tweet reads.

However, there were voices of reason mixed in with the rumors. “How can a kid from north penn possibly have Ebola its lies,” someone Tweeted on Oct.2.

There are currently two confirmed cases of Ebloa being treated in the United States.

Last week, health officials confirmed a Texas man has Ebola after recently traveling to Liberia, where the epidemic is concentrated. He is currently listed in critical condition.

According to NBC, a freelance cameraman from the United States who contracted Ebola after working on assignment in Liberia was flown to Nebraska hospital on Monday.

There is currently no cure for Ebola.
