Longtime Montco State Rep. Marcy Toepel Will Not Seek Re-Election

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Republican State Rep. Marcy Toepel, the first woman from Montgomery County to serve is a leadership in the state house, is not running in 2020.

Toepel, who serves the 147th legislative district, has been in office since she was first elected in 2010.

"My time in the General Assembly has been truly rewarding, and I give my heartfelt thanks everyone for their support in allowing me to serve," she said in a statement on Thursday. "It has been both an awesome and humbling experience. I am also honored to be the first woman from Montgomery County to serve in a leadership position in the House. We live in a remarkable county that I feel fortunate to be able to call home."

A resident of Douglass Township, Toepel noted several programs and initiatives of which she was proud of fighting for during her tenure, including the Brad Fox Law, open space preservation, protection for child porn victims, directing money from the Valley Forge Casino for parks, and more.

She noted that the issue of property taxes and school funding would be a major focus of her final year in office.

The 147th has been Republican since its founding in 1969. Toepel won her most recent election in 2016 by a huge margin over challenger Rachel Hendricks, 20,045 to 11,597.

The district includes Douglass, Green Lane, Lower Salford, Schwenksville, Upper Salford, Marlborough, Lower Frederick, New Hanover, Upper Frederick, Upper Pottsgrove, and West Pottsgrove.
