Lower Salford's Camp Rainbow Opens 'Biggest Season' in Recent Years

Camp spots are still available for 15-16 year olds for the 2016 camping season.

For the first time in many years, Camp Rainbow Inc., the Montgomery County weeklong summer camp opened its season with at full capacity.

“We’re starting our biggest season in a long time. We had a really good turnout,” Tom Johnson, Camp Rainbow Executive Director said. “We’re at our max level.”

With the exception of July 10-15 – the week dedicated to 15- and 16-year-olds – Johnson said the remainder of the seven-week camping season is at capacity.

New for this year, Camp Rainbow, with help from an industrious Eagle Scout named Adam Styer (of Schwenksville) and a donation of wood from Geppert Lumber in Glenside, added a highly anticipated Gaga pit. The camp also received donations of new canoes, craft items and plenty of help from Montgomery County work crews, who lent time to carry out maintenance.

Prior to the start of camp, Joey Phillips, a Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School senior, and Camp Rainbow Inc., student liaison, organized an open house to show the camp’s donors how their contributions have helped. PA State Rep. Marcy Toeppel (R-147), was among the camp’s visitors.

Phillips and her friends also helped ready the camp’s quarters for campers by mopping floors, dusting off bunks and repainting cabins.

“When I went there for the first time to the camp I saw all the kids’ handprints and stuff like that ... You could tell they really enjoyed the camp,” she said. “They’re making memories there and also bettering themselves.”

Spots are available for 15- and 16-year-olds during the week of July 10-15. For eligibility requirements and camp applications, click here: http://camprainbowinc.com/application/.
