Montgomery Township To Pay Stipend To Volunteer First Responders

Emergency service volunteers in Montgomery Township will be paid a new stipend for their service.

MONTGOMERYVILLE, PA — Emergency service volunteers in Montgomery Township will be paid a new stipend for their service, the Board of Supervisors unanimously determined at a recent meeting.

The Volunteer Service Tax Credit will pay all volunteer responders a flat fee for their service. It replaces the previous system which paid personnel based on their paid taxes.

“The volunteer service tax credit was greatly appreciated by the members of the FDMT who dedicate countless hours responding to emergencies, engaging in training, and performing administrative duties," Bill Wiegman, Director of Fire Services, said in a statement. "They are thankful for the new stipend and the recognition from the Board of Supervisors. We are very fortunate in Montgomery Township to have a group of highly trained and dedicated volunteers."
