North Penn Offering Up To $877 In Tax Rebates To Homeowners

Qualifying homeowners and renters could get hundreds of dollars back thanks to a new tax rebate program passed by the school board Tuesday.

LANSDALE, PA — Homeowners and renters in the North Penn School District could see a property tax rebate of nearly $900 under a newly revised program passed by the school board Tuesday night.

Applicants must have a houshold income of no more than $35,000 a year, and must be 65 or older. Widows 50 and older, and disabled individuals 18 and over can also apply.

A maximum rebate of $877.50 is available to those with an income of $8,000 or less. It goes in grades from there, with $675 offered to those who make up to $15,000 a year, $405 for up to $18,000, and $337.50 for up to $35,000 a year.

Renters, meanwhile, can get $585 back if they make $8,000 or less a year, and $450 back if they make $15,000 or less a year.

The program will go into effect on July 1, 2023, based on taxes paid in 2022.

It comes amid controversy and state scrutiny on North Penn, which state auditors said improperly hid money so that they could continue to raise property taxes and stash the excess funds.
