North Penn Oratorical Competition Celebrates Black History Month

To compete, students recite a published speech from an African-American leader. The final round is open to the public.

LANSDALE, PA — Students in the North Penn School District are competing in an oratorical competition in celebration of Black History Month. The final round of the competition will be open to the public.

To compete, students recite a published speech from an African-American leader. Some chosen luminaries include Toni Morrison, Michelle Obama, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr.

A committee of North Penn teachers, staff, and administrators review each video submission, and select finalists for the competition, which is open to students from grades three through 12. One finalist from each level, elementary, middle, and high school, will be chosen for the finals.

Students will be judged on "expression/stage presence, delivery and presentation, and overall effectiveness."

The final round will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6 at Penndale Middle School from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendance for the public is free.
