North Penn SD Providing Supply-Stuffed Backpacks For Students

Backpacks will be privately and anonymously given to students by school staff at the beginning of the school year and throughout as needed.

LANSDALE, PA — Members of the North Penn School District community will come together to provide backpacks and school supplies for students in need.

At 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 20 the North Penn Community will participate in the Build-A-Bag Drive to help students on the 2019-2020 year.

The drive has brought together local businesses and organizations, NPSD families, students, school board members, retirees, staff, community members and more on behalf of those who need it most.

Each year, more and more local families need help providing basic school supplies for their children.

To help combat the problem, four community superpowers formed an alliance to make sure every student is equipped with the tools they need to have a successful start to the 2019-2020 school year through the North Penn Community Build-A-Bag Backpack and School Supply Drive.

With the help of the community, filled backpacks will be privately and anonymously given to students by school staff at the beginning of the school year and throughout as needed.

This summer, NPSD, the NPSD Educational Foundation, The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Montgomery County and the Community Youth Foundation have teamed up once again to partner with local businesses and organizations to bring this drive to life.

By serving as collection sites and holding their own collection drives, more than 30 partner organizations helped to gather supplies from the generous North Penn community to reach the drive’s goal of 325 filled backpacks.

From local businesses, police departments, swim teams and more to a huge donation of more than 400 backpacks from Costco, Build-A-Bag would not be possible without the overwhelming support of the community.

Last week, more than 30 community volunteers gathered to sort through boxes and boxes of donated supplies and backpacks.

With supplies now organized in an assembly-line format, nearly 50 volunteers will join forces once again to "build" bags full of supplies for needy students.

Along with serving as a partner organization and contributing generous donations, J.L. Freed Honda has donated the use of its former showroom located at 2001 N. Broad St. Lansdale to serve as the central location for the sorting of supplies and building of bags.
