North Penn Teacher Honored As 'Educator Of Distinction'

Excellent work by North Penn drama and English teacher Andrea Lee Roney!

LANSDALE, PA — A North Penn School District teacher has been honored with a unique award.

Andrea Lee Roney was named the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction, the district announced this week. She was nominated by North Penn junior Samiha Shoshi.

Roney teaches theatre classes including Drama Major, Advanced Acting, Introduction to Acting, Stage Crew, and 10th grade English. She's also the instructor for an SAT English prep course.

The award recognizes "dedication to teaching and learning" and work as a "source of inspiration and leader," according to Claes Nobel, the chairman of the National Society of High School Scholars, which organizes the award. Claes Nobel is the grand-nephew of Alfred Nobel, who established the Nobel Prizes.

"The Educator of Distinction program embraces my family’s tradition of world-class minds and supports the vision of NSHSS to connect its members with meaningful content, resources and personal networks,” Claes Nobel said in a statement.

There are numerous benefits to being an Educator of Distinction, the district said. Roney is now eligible to apply for additional grants, pursue advanced degrees, and seek other similar awards.
