North Penn Teacher Wins VFW 'Teacher Of The Year'

One of North Penn's finest is getting some well deserved honor for her work.

LANSDALE, PA — One of the North Penn School District's finest is being honored after a school year full of accomplishment.

York Avenue Elementary autistic support teacher Brianna Vandegrift has been named "Teacher of the Year" by the Lansdale VFW Post 32.

"Brianna is one of the most caring, committed, and focused educators I have had the pleasure to know," Dipa Richardson, York Avenue's principal, said in a statement. "Her classroom is warm, respectful, and welcoming to all."

VFW's program recognizes the best teachers at the local, state, and national level. Local winners are eligible to be nominated for state and national awards.

“Brianna is the type of educator who will do whatever it takes to understand the realities and complex needs of all her students, including her culturally and linguistically diverse students," Richardson added. "Families, including our language learners, feel comfortable speaking with her and know her to be a champion for all students. York Avenue is lucky to have her."

VFW says the award is given to teachers who both represent the best of their communities and who inspire students daily.
