1 Dead After I-476 Crash In Montgomery County

The center and right lanes are shut down and an investigation is underway.

SALFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — One person was killed in an accident on I-476 in Montgomery County Friday morning, paralyzing traffic in an area already impacted by a construction zone.

The incident occurred in the southbound lanes near mile marker 36.4, which is located in Salford Township.

A man driving a utility service truck stopped on the shoulder to check on his truck, which state police said appeared insecure.

The shoulder in the area is very narrow.

Police said an approaching semi-truck was distracted and drifted slightly out of his lane into the shoulder, striking and killing the victim instantly.

A construction zone just north of the crash narrows traffic on the highway to just two lanes, so the accident further snarled in the area for some time. Both the center and right lanes were closed at noon.

The victim has not been identified publicly yet by state police as they are still in the process of notifying his family. An investigation remains underway.
