Photo Contest Lets You Show Love of Lansdale

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has launched its inaugural "I Love Classic Towns" photo contest.

The contest is part of the DVRPC's Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia program.
The goal: Engage the community to showcase its neighborhood.

All photos must have been take on or after Jan. 1, 2010. The deadline for submissions is April 14, 2012.
“This is a fun opportunity to show why we love our Classic Towns,” said Barry Seymour, executive director of DVRPC. “Our goal is to help spread the love for Classic Towns so people embrace them as great places to live, work, and play.”
According to a press releae, at present, there are 20 towns designated as Classic Towns by DVRPC: Ambler, Ardmore, Bordentown City, Bristol Borough, Collingswood, Germantown, Glassboro, Haddon Heights, Kennett Square, Lansdale, Lansdowne, Manayunk, Media, Merchantville, Moorestown, New Hope, Overbrook Farms, Phoenixville, Souderton/Telford, and West Chester.
The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers.
There are seven categories to submit images: Community, Local History, Main Street, Parks and Recreation, People, Residential and Seasonal.
Lansdale certainly hits all seven prominently.
The winning photgrapher gets $100 for the top image in each category.
There is also a $500 Judge's Choice prize and a $30 Voter's Choice prize.
Photos will eventually become part of a traveling Classic Towns exhibit starting in Philadelphia.
Online voting will take place from April 15, 2012 to May 14, 2012, with formal judging and winners announced by July 31, 2012.

The “I Love Classic Towns” photo contest is co-sponsored by Perkins Center for the Arts, Moorestown, NJ.
"Photography is the perfect medium to capture the unique character of our Classic Towns, which combine amazing architecture and urban design with personable and walkable Main Streets," said Alan Willoughby, executive director of Perkins Center for the Arts. "These towns are truly filled with warmth and charm that will steal your heart away."
