LANSDALE, PA — A Montgomery County-based pro-Palestinian group will hold a protest in connection with International Women's Day on Friday at Railroad Plaza in Lansdale.

The event aims to both call for an end to Israel's genocide in Palestine, as well as commemorating women leaders and human rights advocates.

"Let us come together and preach about our historical women who have empowered us to keep fighting for others who are oppressed," organizers said. "Let us continue with their legacy."

"It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. But also, we remember the revolutionary women who have given up their lives fighting against imperialism, fascism, colonialism, and so on."

The protest will begin at 1 p.m. Friday. After the meet up at Railroad Plaza, protesters will march on sidewalks to Memorial Park.

"Our work is rooted in our deep disapproval of our country's overly militarized foreign policy," organizer Alexandra Norpel told Patch.

Norpel's group, Montco for Liberation, has organized similar protests elsewhere, including Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia last week. At the protest before that in Blue Bell, counter-protesters threatened the protesters with violence.

Protesters are asked to consider wearing a mask to cover their face due to reprisals. They're also instructed to obey law enforcement, but not to engage with them otherwise and to avoid any engagements with counter-protesters.

More than 30,000 Gazans have been killed in the past five months of Israel's assault on Palestine, including an estimated ten thousand children, according to estimates from numerous outlets including NPR and Al-Jazeera.

Montco for Liberation has partnered with numerous other organizations for their protests in the past, including the Philly Palestine Coalition, Lancaster Palestine Coalition, Philly Chapter of American Muslims for Palestine, CAIR Philadelphia, BuxMont DSA, Party for Socialism and Liberation, NEPA for Palestine, and the Abandon Biden Campaign.
