WATCH: Blind, Deaf Dog Rescued Five Feet Underground In Montco

Local police are often called upon to work miracles, but this recent call was something entirely differently.

UPPER GWYNEDD, PA — Local police are often called upon to do the extraordinary. Sometimes, that extends into the animal kingdom.

The latest venture occurred in Upper Gwynedd Township on Sunday when a dog found herself several feet underground.

The meandering mutt, Penny, is blind, deaf, and elderly. Somewhere along Green Street, she came upon a cistern — "long forgotten" by time and local residents — which she fell down.

The hole was about five feet deep. Fortunately, several Upper Gwynedd police officers, including Officers Toro and Gill and Sgt. Gillen, were able to use a stray dog pole to retrieve her out of the hole, and back to safety.
