Fireball, Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, or Vladimir?

What are the most popular kinds of liquor in Pennsylvania?

Fireball was by far the most popular choice, followed closely by Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey, Nikolai Vodka, Jacquin’s Vodka, Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, and Vladimir Vodka.

Barefoot, meanwhile, was the top brand choice statewide. Jacquin’s, Sutter Home, Captain Morgan, Bacardi, and Smirnoff came next.

The study broke down sales by county, and gleaned some interesting insights regarding local preferences:

  • Chardonnay is the most popular wine in Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester Counties. Italian is the top seller in Delaware County, while Philadelphia prefers champagne.
  • Unflavored vodka is by far the preferred poison of choice of most of the state, including all of southeastern Pennsylvania.
  • Philadelphia County (2), Montgomery County (3), Bucks County (4), Chester County (5), and Delaware County (6) are among the highest grossing counties for liquor in the state.
  • Fireball (47 percent) and Peter Vella (49 percent) saw the biggest growth in sales from last year to this year.

The study also revealed that 10 a.m. on Saturday is the most popular hour to buy booze in Pennsylvania. That hour accounted for 8.84 percent of all Saturday sales.

Overall, sales have grown steadily in the last five years, rising incrementally from $1.8 billion in 2010-2011 to $2.2 billion in 2014-2015.

Each year, including 2014-2015, the highest individual seller category was “regular spirits,” which covers all orthodox liquors. That category accounted for $1.2 billion of total sales the past year, ahead of “regular wine,” which drew in $766 million.
